When the Wiggins family decided it was time to reimagine their main level, they came to Mountaineer Kitchens & Baths with a clear goal: a full kitchen overhaul that would improve both function and flow throughout the heart of their home. Located in Falling Waters, WV, this project went well beyond a standard kitchen update. From removing an existing pantry wall to opening up the entire main level with new flooring, trim, and cabinetry, the scope of work reflected a family ready for a complete refresh done right.
Opening Up the Space with Smart Structural Changes
One of the most impactful decisions in this renovation was removing the existing pantry walls and door to open up the layout. That space was converted into a pantry closet, keeping the storage functionality while eliminating the visual barrier that had been cutting off the kitchen from the rest of the main level. All beadboard, chair rail, and original baseboard and casing throughout the first floor were removed as well, setting the stage for a cleaner, more cohesive finish.
Interior doors to the new pantry closet, laundry room, and main-level bathroom were replaced with fresh paint-grade hollow core doors, bringing a unified look to the entire floor.

Custom KraftMaid Cabinetry Designed for Everyday Living
At the center of this kitchen transformation is a full suite of KraftMaid cabinetry, selected for its quality construction and lasting durability. As with all of Mountaineer’s projects, the cabinets are American-made and built to handle the demands of everyday life. The Wiggins’ design pairs two finishes for a layered, intentional look:
- Base cabinets in Shortbread with Maple construction and the Lyndale full-overlay door style
- Wall cabinets in Warm White using Evercore construction
- All-plywood box construction with soft-close hardware throughout
- Hardware in Verona Bronze, adding warmth and contrast to the two-tone cabinet palette
Four pantry closet shelves were also built and finished to match, keeping the new storage space consistent with the rest of the kitchen design. Mountaineer’s in-house team handled every aspect of the cabinet installation, from trimwork and toe-kicks to door adjustments and hardware placement.

Misterio Gold Quartz Countertops and Full-Height Backsplash
The countertop selection brings a striking focal point to the kitchen. The Wiggins family chose Misterio Gold quartz, a rich, movement-filled surface that plays beautifully against the warm Shortbread base cabinets. A full-height backsplash in the same material creates a bold, finished look that ties the cabinetry wall together from countertop to upper cabinet.
Mountaineer uses computerized laser templating and CNC-precision manufacturing to ensure each cut is exact and every seam is as tight and clean as possible. The result is countertops that look custom because they are. Plumbing fixtures were updated to match, including a Moen Weymouth faucet in oil rubbed bronze with a two-handle, high-arc, pull-down spray head, and a new Moen garbage disposal.
Lighting, Electrical, and the New Coffee Bar
This kitchen was rewired with intentional lighting in mind. The electrical plan included:
- Four LED recessed lights in the kitchen for clean, even overhead illumination
- Three pendant lights rough-in over the island, with the pendants selected by the homeowners
- Dedicated circuits for all appliance locations
- GFCI receptacles in the work area and island as required
- A dedicated receptacle at the new coffee bar station
- A switched receptacle for the garbage disposal
New venthood ducting and an exterior cap were installed for proper kitchen ventilation. All switches, receptacles, and cover plates were updated to white and placed to match the updated design. Mountaineer also installed the dishwasher and above-range microwave as part of the project scope.
New LVP Flooring Throughout the Entire Main Level
The existing flooring throughout the main level was removed and replaced with Mannington Realta SPC in Scandinavian Oak Natural, a 7×48 plank format that brings a clean, airy feel to the space. The installation covers the living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, closets, and laundry room, giving the entire main floor a single, continuous look.
The subfloor was prepared as needed before installation, and no shoe mold or quarter round was added, keeping the transition between flooring and trim clean and modern.

Fresh Paint, New Trim, and Finished Drywall
New paint-grade casing and baseboard were installed throughout the entire main level, replacing everything that was removed during demo. Mountaineer’s team finished all new drywall to Level 4 standards, patched and primed throughout, and painted walls, ceilings, and trim using Sherwin-Williams products:
- Walls: Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint in a satin sheen
- Ceilings: Sherwin-Williams Masterhide in flat white
- Trim and doors: Sherwin-Williams Masterhide in semi-gloss white
The result is a crisp, bright finish that lets the cabinetry and countertops do the talking throughout the space.
A Kitchen Designed for Everyday Living
From the structural changes that opened up the layout to the carefully selected materials that carry through every surface, the Wiggins kitchen renovation is a study in thoughtful design and quality craftsmanship. Mountaineer Kitchens & Baths managed every piece of this project in-house, from the first demo day to the final punchout, with no outsourcing and no shortcuts. The result is a main level that feels entirely new and built to last for years to come.
