When the Dagg family in Charles Town decided it was time to update their kitchen, they were looking for a space that felt brighter, more functional, and better suited for everyday living. With a thoughtful redesign, upgraded finishes, and improved lighting, the Mountaineer Kitchens & Baths team helped transform their kitchen into a welcoming centerpiece of the home.

This renovation combined structural improvements, custom cabinetry, and carefully selected materials to create a kitchen that balances style, efficiency, and durability.

Preparing the Space for a Complete Kitchen Transformation

The project began with a full demolition of the existing kitchen elements to prepare for the new layout and finishes. Our team removed the original cabinetry, countertops, sink, faucet, garbage disposal, flooring, and tile throughout the kitchen. Bulkheads above the wall cabinets were also removed to allow for a cleaner, more open cabinet design.

A new replacement window was installed above the sink, bringing additional natural light into the kitchen and helping create a brighter workspace.

As with every Mountaineer project, the space was carefully prepared for the next phase of construction, including drywall repairs and updates finished to meet drywall standards for a smooth, professional finish.

Custom Cabinetry Designed for Style and Function

At the heart of this kitchen renovation is a beautiful set of KraftMaid cabinets, designed to deliver both durability and visual appeal.

The Daggs selected:

  • Door Style: Lyndale
  • Overlay: Full
  • Construction: All-plywood construction with soft-close hardware
  • Wood Species: Evercore
  • Finish: Harbor

The cabinetry layout was designed to maximize storage and usability, while maintaining a clean and modern look. Our team handled the full installation process, including all trim work, toe kicks, door adjustments, and hardware placement to ensure every detail aligned perfectly with the design.

Elegant Quartz Countertops and Stylish Finishes

To complement the cabinetry, the Daggs selected Cambria Portrush quartz countertops, a durable and visually striking surface that brings both elegance and practicality to the kitchen.

Features included:

  • Ogee edge profile for added character
  • Stainless steel sink supplied and installed by Mountaineer
  • Professional templating and fabrication using advanced digital measuring technology for precise installation

The countertops were paired with a Pamarva SOHO 2×5 picket tile backsplash in Canvas White, installed in a classic pattern and finished with Frosty grout and matte white Schluter edging. This combination adds texture and visual interest without overwhelming the space.

Lighting, Electrical, and Functional Upgrades

Lighting played a key role in enhancing both the functionality and atmosphere of the new kitchen.

Electrical improvements included:

  • Six recessed LED ceiling lights for even illumination
  • Four pendant lights above the island
  • One pendant light over the sink
  • Dedicated circuits for appliances
  • GFCI outlets in work areas and island
  • Specialty outlets inside cabinets for appliances and water systems

These upgrades ensure the kitchen is as practical as it is beautiful.

Flooring and Finishing Touches

To tie the space together, new flooring was installed throughout the kitchen, living room, and laundry room areas.

The Daggs chose Mannington Adura Max click-lock LVT flooring in Vienna Alabaster, offering the warmth of wood with the durability and moisture resistance needed for busy households.

Additional finishing details included:

  • Paint-grade casing, base, and shoe molding to match the home’s existing trim
  • Fresh paint throughout the renovated areas using Sherwin-Williams finishes
  • Careful installation of plumbing fixtures including a Hotis brushed gold farmhouse apron sink, Moen Cia faucet, and Moen garbage disposal

Every detail—from lighting placement to cabinet hardware—was installed by the Mountaineer team to ensure a cohesive and high-quality result.
