When the Reap family was ready to update the bathrooms in their Harpers Ferry home, they came to Mountaineer Kitchens & Baths for a project that would cover three spaces at once: the master bath, the guest bath, and the powder room. The scope called for custom tile work throughout, Schluter waterproofing systems in both full bathrooms, and heated floors in the master suite. Every element was selected and installed with long-term durability in mind.
Heated Floors and a Custom Tile Shower
The master bathroom received the most comprehensive treatment of the three spaces. The shower was built on a 72″ x 72″ Schluter shower pan with a curbless entry, and the walls were prepped with Kerdi waterproofing membrane before tile installation began. Le Dolomiti White 12×24 tile was installed throughout in a brick pattern, running from the shower floor up the walls to the full 120″ ceiling height. Brushed nickel Schluter edging frames the tile cleanly, and two tiled shower niches — each with a 2×2 mosaic accent in the back — add both function and detail to the design.
The bathroom floor received the same Le Dolomiti White tile in a brick pattern, installed over Schluter Ditra-Heat electric floor heating underlayment. The heating system was tested to manufacturer specifications during installation and carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty. Laticrete Spectralok1 grout in Frosty was used throughout for a consistent, clean finish.
Custom Shower and Coordinated Tile
The guest bath follows the same design language as the master, maintaining a cohesive look across the home. The shower was built on a 44″ x 61″ Schluter shower pan with a tile curb, and the walls were waterproofed with Kerdi membrane before tile installation. Le Dolomiti White 12×24 tile was installed in a brick pattern on both the shower floor and walls, again running to 120″ ceiling height with brushed nickel Schluter edging. A single tiled niche with a 2×2 mosaic accent provides built-in storage in the shower.
The bathroom floor received the same 12×24 tile in a brick pattern, installed over Schluter Ditra uncoupling underlayment. Laticrete Spectralok1 grout in Frosty ties the finishes together with the master bath.
Consistent Finishes Throughout
The powder room received 12×24 Le Dolomiti White tile in a brick pattern, installed over Schluter Ditra uncoupling underlayment with Spectralok1 grout in Frosty. A brushed nickel Schluter transition strip provides a finished edge where the tile meets the adjoining floor. The result keeps all three spaces connected by the same material palette, giving the home a unified feel from room to room.
Waterproofing, Materials, and Craftsmanship
Every wet area in this project was built on the Schluter system, which integrates the shower pan, Kerdi waterproofing membrane, and tile installation into a single, fully warranted system:
- Schluter shower pans and Kerdi membrane carry a lifetime warranty to the original homeowner
- Ditra-Heat electric floor heating in the master bath carries a 10-year manufacturer warranty
- Schluter Ditra uncoupling membrane in the guest bath and powder room, also lifetime warranted
